The Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 2018 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2022

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 21(1) of the Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 20181 , makes the following Regulations.
1 Citation¶
These Regulations may be cited as the Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 2018 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2022.
2 Extent¶
These Regulations extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
3 Provision coming into force on 27th May 2022¶
Section 11 (large fuel retailers etc: provision of public charging or refuelling points) of the Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 2018 comes into force on 27th May 2022.
EXPLANATORY NOTE¶

These Regulations bring into force, on 27th May 2022, section 11 of the Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 2018 (c. 18) (“the Act ”). These are the second commencement regulations made under the Act. The first commencement regulations, the Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 2018 (Commencement No. 1) Regulations (S.I. 2021/396 ), brought certain provisions into force on 21st April 2021, and certain other provisions came into force on the passing of the Act.
Regulation 3 of these Regulations commences section 11 of the Act. Section 11 provides the Secretary of State with the power to make regulations requiring large fuel retailers and service area operators to provide public charging points and to ensure that public charging points are maintained and easily accessible to the public.
