2026 Chapter 17

An Act to make provision about the maximum number of salaries that may be paid under the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 in respect of certain Ministerial offices.

Enacted [29th April 2026]

Be it enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

^I11 Ministerial salaries¶

Amends Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 · 3 changes

Schedule 1 — Part V — Paragraph 2

In the case of the following offices a salary may be paid to more than one holder of the office at the same time, subject to the limitations expressed below, that is to say—

a Secretary of State, so long as not more than 2122 salaries are paid at the same time in accordance with Part I above;

b Minister of State, so long as not more than 5054 salaries are paid at the same time in accordance with Parts I and II above;

c Parliamentary Secretary other than Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury, so long as not more than 8394 salaries are paid at the same time in accordance with Parts I and II above taken together with salaries to any Parliamentary Secretary in accordance with Part IV above;

paragraphs (d) – (f) unchanged

In paragraph 2 of Part 5 of Schedule 1 to the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 (maximum number of salaries that may be paid in respect of certain Ministerial offices)—

a in paragraph (a) (Secretaries of State), for “21” substitute “22”;

b in paragraph (b) (Secretaries of State and Ministers of State), for “50” substitute “54”;

c in paragraph (c) (Secretaries of State, Ministers of State and Parliamentary Secretaries), for “83” substitute “94”.

^I22 Extent, commencement and short title¶

1 This Act extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

2 This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed.

3 This Act may be cited as the Ministerial Salaries (Amendment) Act 2026.
